Thad Moffitt Cuts Red Locks For A Good Cause

It was hard to miss Thad Moffitt in Daytona.

He was the guy with the flaming red, shoulder length hair that was nearly impossible to hide even under a hat or helmet. The 19-year-old grandson of Richard Petty.

But when Moffitt gets to Phoenix Raceway next week, his appearance will be a little more inconspicuous thanks to a well-intentioned haircut. The Trinity, North Carolina, driver cut his locks Tuesday to benefit disadvantaged kids. His hair, which he had been growing since June of 2018, will be donated to Children with Hair Loss, a nonprofit organization which provides free human hair replacements to children and young adults facing medically-related hair loss.

“The whole thing came about last summer while Grandpa and I were signing autographs. A young fan told me that my hair is so beautiful that I should donate some of it to charity,” Moffitt told the media at the event at the Fab Shop at Victory Junction, a camp serving children with serious medical conditions and chronic illnesses.

Moffitt opened the season with a fifth-place run at Daytona. He has a top five and six top 10 finishes in 16 career ARCA Menards Series starts.
