Texas Race In Jeopardy Next Weekend Due to COVID-19?

According to several reliable sources in the garage following the race at Kentucky Speedway, there was some speculation where we might be racing next weekend.

With NASCAR’s modified race schedule, this coming weekend, we are supposed to be racing at Texas Motor Speedway; however, with the highest increase of COVID-19 cases in the state, bring a total number of cases to over 10,000; the race may now be in jeopardy once again.

The race was initially scheduled to take place in March, but due to COVID 19 was pushed back to a mid-July race weekend.

Supposedly NASCAR will make the decision with Texas Motor Speedway and the Texas State Government if they can proceed with the race next weekend and will be announced by Tuesday of this next week.

If NASCAR does not race at Texas, except them to travel to a different Speedway Motorsports owned race track which could include Atlanta Motor Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, or back to Kentucky Speedway.

Texas Motor Speedway has sold several tickets already for next weekends Cup Series race, which is expecting to allow 50% capacity of its 135,000 seats available.

The reason for the possible cancelation is due to the COVID-19 outbreak the state has seen in recent weeks, and on Friday, the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, has said the state could shut down in the coming days/weeks to prevent the spread of COVID 19.

“Things will get worse, and let me explain why,” Abbott told KLBK. “The deaths that we’re seeing announced today and yesterday — which are now over 100 — those are people who likely contracted COVID-19 in late May.

“The worst is yet to come as we work our way through that massive increase in people testing positive.”
