After finishing 11th in the 2021 Xfinity Series championship standings, Riley Herbst will return to Stewart-Haas Racing in 2022 to drive the No. 98 Ford.
In his first season with SHR, Herbst tallied five top-five finishes, with a total of 13 top 10s. The Las Vegas native earned his first career Xfinity Series pole at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May, leading a total of 57 laps over the course of the 33-race schedule. His average finished of 17.1, dipped slightly from his 16th-place average result in his rookie season with Joe Gibbs Racing.
Leading up to the final few races of the 2021 season, Herbst shared his thoughts about returning to Stewart-Haas Racing next year.
Monster Energy has been with you for a number of years and will be back with you again for the 2022 season. Talk about what the company’s support means to you and your career.
“Monster Energy has been a great partner. They’ve been with me for quite a few years and to have their support in my career means everything. We’ve been close to getting them to victory lane a few times, and I want to get them there soon. I’m excited that they’ll be back with me on the No. 98 Ford Mustang in 2022, as well. Big things are coming for this team.”
What have you learned that you’ll carry into next year with the No. 98 Monster Energy team?
“Honestly, we’ve learned a lot since Daytona. I’m proud of how much this Monster Energy team has grown since our first race. We’ve come a long way from that brand new driver-team combo when the season started in February. We’ve been able to do a lot with the cards that have been dealt. The good news is that we’ve got another season together to continue to improve. Big things are coming for us.”
