Newman’s Consecutive Cup Starts Will End at 649 After Daytona Crash

Following a final lap crash in the Daytona 500, Ryan Newman is expected to miss this weekends race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

By starting this years Daytona 500, Ryan Newman passed Dale Earnhardt for 6th all time on the most consecutive NASCAR Cup Series starts by a driver.

Jimmie Johnson is currently tied with Ryan Newman at 649 starts, and will surpass Ryan this weekend as Jimmie is scheduled to race at Las Vegas. However, Ryan Newman has four additional starts then Jimmie Johnson in 2000 and 2001 at a total of 357 races.

Ryan’s first race that started his streak was the Daytona 500 in 2002 where Newman finished 7th in the race.
