Iowa Speedway to be Closed or Sold?

"Thank you race fans for 15 years of world-class racing at The Fastest Short Track on the Planet! We appreciate our fans at Iowa Speedway." - Iowa Speedway

Following the only race weekend that Iowa Speedway will see in 2020, there are rumors swirling that the race track is likely to either be closed or sold before years end.

Iowa Speedway hosted the ARCA Menards Series and two NTT Indy Car Series races this past weekend to a sold-out crowd on Saturday night for a track that was approved to have up to 30% capacity.

Earlier in the year, NASCAR announced that Iowa Speedway would not host the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoor Truck Series and both NASCAR Xfinity Series as initially planned due to COVID-19 in 2020, even though Iowa state government would have allowed fans at a limited capacity.

In early April of this year, NASCAR announced that a majority of the staff at the speedway had been released from their positions, and the tracks president, David Hyatt, and a small number of staff will stay to operate races this year.

The track has not officially announced its for sale, but it sounds like the track will close and potentially be sold in the future after NASCAR purchased the track last year with a group of other former ISC race tracks.

Sunday morning, Iowa Speedway posted on social media thanking fans for a great 15 years.

We have reached out to Iowa Speedway for comment, but did not get a response at the time of publishing.
