Brendan Gaughan today will make his 64th NASCAR Cup Series start at Talladega Superspeedway in what is his final season of NASCAR competition, or so was the plan.
In a virtual news conference on Thursday, Brendan Gaughan was asked if there is any possibility of coming back next season.
“You know, the plan was for Mr. Beard to wrap up his team and not have to purchase the new car once it came next year, but now that won’t happen until 2021, and he has the equipment to do these Superspeedway races still next season.”
Gaughan continued to add, “As of right now, I am still done at the end of the season, but that carrot is always dangling to come back maybe for the Daytona 500 or something”.
When asked if the Beard Family requested his return for next season: “What do you think?” he said with a smile. “Mrs. Beard told me she would make her world-famous chili if I return for next season.”
“Even though I might not return to the track, I could still be a part of the team for their final season. I would be happy to sponsor (South Point Hotel) a driver or two for the ride next year.
