Charlotte Motor Speedway Planning Updates for Fan Concourse and Grandstands

It looks like we may know soon where some of the money given to Charlotte Motor Speedway by the State of North Carolina could be going.

On November 18, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper approved the state’s 2022 budget, which includes over 40 million dollars in improvements at North Carolinas race tracks, including North Wilkesboro Speedway, Rockingham Speedway, and Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Both Wilkesboro and Rockingham have announced plans to upgrade their facilities after sitting vacant for several years.

Charlotte Motor Speedway who has hosted NASCAR Cup Series racing at least twice a year since 1960, will receive 13 million dollars for water, sewer, and infrastructure projects at the historic race track.

According to reports, Charlotte Motor Speedway could be planning a major reconstruction project of their Fan Concourse and Grandstands according to FOX46 out of Charlotte.

“Leaders at Charlotte Motor Speedway are finalizing plans to spend 13 million dollars, but it’s expected some of the money will be used to revamp the fan concourse.” Brett Baldeck said on the newscast Wednesday morning.

There have been slight additions to the tracks grandstands recently, including a new Sun Deck installed in 2018.

The track also has downsized seating capacity from 146,000 seats in 2009 to 89,000 in 2021. Many of those modifications were to build upon the fan experience, including the Sun Deck.

Official upgrades for the track are not excepted to be announced until next year.
