Several Teams Receive Major Penalties for Tech Fails on Friday

As the NASCAR Cup Series roles into Auto Club Speedway this weekend, the teams will have their first actual test of a typical race weekend with the new NextGen cars, and for several teams, it is off to a rough start.

Eight teams of all three manufacturers failed pre-practice/qualifying tech Friday evening multiple times.

Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, Bubba Wallace, Alex Bowman, and BJ McLeod failed tech twice, resulting in losing a crew member for the race weekend and pit stall selection following qualifying.

The team of Kurt Busch failed tech three times. In addition to the penalty of losing a crew member and pit stall selection, the No. 45 Toyota Camry will need to take a drive-through penalty on the first lap of the race Sunday afternoon.

It was not announced if these penalties stem from the same issue, we are expected to hear more information about these penalties from NASCAR on Saturday.
