Report: Josh Bilicki Expected to Race for Spire Motorsports Second Entry in 2022

NASCAR Cup Series driver Josh Bilicki is expected to leave Rick Ware Racing following the 2021 season and become the new driver at Spire Motorsports. The team will purchase or lease a charter for 2022, according to Toby Christie at tobychristie.com.

Bilicki has competed in 71 NASCAR Cup Series, including a full season in 2021, where he had an average finish of 31.1 but finished every race except two races for mechanical issues.

Spire Motorsports sold two of their three charters to Kaulig Racing for the 2022 season, leaving Spire Motorsports a one-car team with Corey LaJoie racing the No. 7.

Rick Ware Racing is looking to sell two of their charter teams. One charter already sold was to Petty GMS Racing’s new No. 42 ride for driver Ty Dillon. Spire Motorsports is expected to lease or purchase the second charter.

Bilicki has been at most of Rick Ware Racing’s sponsorship promotional events throughout the off-season. Although Bilicki might move to Spire Motorsports, a new partnership could be formed between the two teams in 2022.

The partnership is not expected to be a technical alliance since Rick Ware Racing has already announced a new collaboration with Stewart-Hass Racing and Ford Performance for 2022 while Spire Motorsports races Chevrolet’s.

If this report becomes fact, an announcement is expected early in January 2022.
