Former NASCAR Driver, John Wes Townley Killed in Shooting

John Wes Townley was killed in a shooting that occurred in Athens-Clarke County, Georiga confirmed by the Athens Banner-Herald.

Athens-Clarke County police responded to a shooting in the 200 block of Morton Avenue in the Five Points neighborhood just before 9 p.m. on Saturday.

Townley died of injuries at the hospital.

Athens-Clarke County reports an investigation is ongoing in the matter.

Townley has competed in a total of 186 races in NASCAR’s top three series racing from 2008 to 2016. His one NASCAR Cup Series attempt happened with Go Fas Racing in 2012 at Pocono Raceway where Townley did not qualify for the race.

Townley has one Truck Series victory coming 6 years ago to the day on October, 3rd 2015 for this family-owned race team.
