Cup Series Expected to Race Daytona Road Course in August Replacing Watkins Glen

Several sources are reporting that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo will not sign a waiver to allow NASCAR to compete at Watkins Glen International next month.

NASCAR is looking at a replacement race track at this time to fill a potential void if NASCAR does not have the option to race at The Glen.

One of the race tracks that have been rumored throughout the last two months was Road America in Wisconsin. However, some of those rumors have died down due to potential track upgrades expected this season.

On the Sirius XM Radio Program “Sirius XM Speedway” host, Dave Moody said that it is highly likely that NASCAR will compete on the Daytona Road Course for the August 16th race weekend.

It sounds like there might be some shuffling in the schedule for the month of August.

Daytona might race on Wednesday, August 25th, and then the final race of the regular season at Daytona on Saturday, August 29th.

If this plan comes to fruition, the NASCAR Cup Series would have to compete in four Cup Series races, two races each at Michigan and Dover, in the first two and a half weeks of the month.

NASCAR is expected to announce the August schedule later this week.

The goal for NASCAR is not to disrupt the schedule once playoffs start on September 6th at Darlington Raceway.
